Watch the insane moment Saquon Barkley hurdles over an NFL defender backwards in Jaguars vs Eagles
Saquon Barkley is mad for even thinking a backwards hurdle would work in an NFL game, much less having the gall to try it and pull it off, like he did for the Eagles against the Jaguars.
Early in the second quarter, Barkley ran a route into the flat and was found by Jalen Hurts for a completion.
Barkley made two defenders miss, including one with a spin move, before leaving his feet. And then came the butt-first hurdle that amazed the sports world.
Barkley’s 14-yard reception came to an end once he got back down to his feet, as he was tackled by a few Jacksonville defenders.
Hurdling players while running at them is fascinating enough, but adding in the timing of doing it blindly makes it a unique moment in NFL history.
Saquon Barkley attempted a backwards hurdle over a defender on Sunday against the Jaguars
Jacksonville’s Jarrian Jones was unfortunately looking up at Barkley’s backwards hurdle
‘This is truly insane. Like a Matrix scene on the football field,’ Outkick’s Clay Travis said on X.
Jaguars defensive back Jarrian Jones was the unfortunate Jacksonville player to have been jumped over by Barkley during the exchange.
It was the exclamation point of a strong first half from Barkley, who added a receiving and rushing touchdown apiece.
Barkley is in his first season with the Eagles after spending the first several years of his career with the New York Giants.
Sunday’s matchup with Jacksonville was a near-must-win for Philadelphia to keep pace with NFC East-leading Washington, who defeated New York on Sunday.
The Eagles still have both matchups with the Commanders to go this season, with one each in November and December.
