The Minister of Irrigation discusses with the Green Climate Fund financing irrigation development works in Wadi Al-Naqra in Aswan

The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hani Sweilem, discussed with the Regional Director of the Green Climate Fund for the Middle East and North Africa, Dr. Amjad Al-Mahdi, the position of the ongoing discussions with the Green Climate Fund to finance the work required to develop the irrigation system in the Wadi Al-Naqra region in Aswan Governorate through the rehabilitation of the system. Irrigation in a way that is resistant to climate change, as a long-term solution to improve the irrigation situation in the region.

During the meeting, which was held today, Tuesday, on the sidelines of the activities of the third day of the seventh Cairo Water Week and the ninth African Water Week, the possibility of financing a number of projects through Readiness Fund, where the Ministry provided a list of projects and activities aimed at developing the irrigation system that can be supported through the Fund, which includes training and capacity building for the Ministry’s employees, managing and estimating floods and developing hydrological models for them, assessing the effects of seawater on groundwater in the northern coastal areas, and transferring knowledge in The field of interconnection between water, food and energy, developing a project based on desalination, renewable energy and modern irrigation, and preparing a project focusing on the use of natural materials in rehabilitating canals and protecting coastal areas through feeding sand.

 

The activities of the Seventh Cairo Water Week began yesterday, Sunday, with the participation of specialized experts from various parts of the world to discuss issues related to water management and climate change. Cairo Water Week, in its seventh edition, addresses 5 main topics, including: shared water governance, water resources management To enhance the resilience of communities, innovate in financing water security solutions, work to adapt to climate change, and build climate-smart communities in terms of planning and legislation.
