The Foreign Minister and his Somali counterpart agree on the importance of raising relations between the two countries to the level of strategic partnership

Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, and Ahmed Moallem Faki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, held bilateral discussions in Cairo, today, to follow up on the overall bilateral relations between the two countries and the most prominent regional and international issues of common interest. &nbsp ;

The two ministers agreed on the importance of raising relations between the two countries to the level of a strategic partnership, so that successive rounds of discussions are held. It is allocated to specific strategic axes, including the political, economic, commercial, security, military, cultural, educational, and capacity-building axes.

  Dr. Badr Abdel-Ati affirmed Egypt’s full support for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity. Within the framework of the principles of international law, noting the contents of the Ankara Declaration issued on December 11 2024 is an affirmation of those principles that must be adhered to in order to enhance the stability, unity and security of Somalia.

The two sides stressed the importance of accelerating the formation of the new African Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

The two ministers appealed to partners The African Union in order to provide the necessary and sustainable funding for the new mission, taking into account the impact of unrest in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea on international trade and navigation. To support the efforts of the Somali National Army in combating terrorism and preserving the state’s capabilities. Mr. Ahmed Moallem Faki also reaffirmed Somalia’s aspiration towards achieving qualitative and effective Egyptian participation in the new mission in a way that helps achieve its goals in view of the advanced Egyptian military capabilities and its extensive experience in combating terrorism, as well as its experience in supporting the building of state institutions, in addition to bilateral military cooperation between the two countries in accordance with The military cooperation protocol signed in August 2024.     

The two sides reviewed developments in bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries in various fields, including diplomatic, military, and health training, and supporting the capabilities of the Somali side in the legislative fields. They also stressed the importance of strengthening and improving trade relations between the two countries and working On the success of the Egyptian-Somali Business Forum, which Cairo is scheduled to host soon.
