Thuraya Khalil said, in a special statement to AHA, on the sidelines of the twelfth edition of the World Urban Forum, today, Monday, that the World Urban Forum is an important event in planning and urbanization, preparing special strategies for housing, and providing adequate and appropriate housing for citizens.
She indicated that the Kingdom of Morocco is interested in participating in these urban forums to exchange experiences with countries of the world that share their experiences in these global events and activities.
The Moroccan official expressed her pride in participating in this edition hosted by Egypt, where he participates. Morocco with a large delegation headed by the Minister, Secretary of State in charge of Housing in the Kingdom of Morocco. The delegation also includes various entities in the public and private sectors.
She praised Egypt’s organization of this major international event, which reflects the expertise of the Egyptian state and its inspiring experience in organizing major conferences. Noting that her country’s delegation did not face any obstacles in the arrival and registration procedures to attend the forum, as all facilities were provided to the delegation upon its arrival in Cairo.
Thuraya added that the Egyptian government was keen to inform them, along with the various delegations participating in the event. For the visits and events provided by the Ministry of Housing to visit heritage places and the New Administrative Capital, which is a wonderful experience in the field of housing, urbanization and urban planning.
She stressed that Moroccan participation in the World Urban Forum tops the agenda of its goals, promoting and strengthening relations with Egypt. In all fields, in addition to learning about the pioneering Egyptian experience in the urban field, as Egypt has a remarkable success in this regard.
Thuraya stressed that Morocco seeks to benefit from the Egyptian experience in overcoming the challenges facing urban and urban development. On top of which is population growth, saying, “We want to transfer the Egyptian experience in overcoming slums and providing adequate housing for all citizens.” She pointed out that her country believes well that establishing new cities is the best means of urban planning to confront growth. The growing population, stressing that the experience of the “New Administrative Capital” It is the closest thing to Morocco to learn and benefit from.
The Moroccan official continued, saying that the Moroccan pavilion at the forum aims to present the progress achieved by the Kingdom of Morocco with regard to implementing the sustainable development goals and the new urban plan, in line with the forum’s slogan, “It all begins.” Locally, let us work together for sustainable cities and communities.”
She pointed out that this Moroccan pavilion is an opportunity to enhance interaction and exchange of experiences with participating countries and delegations, as a group of events and seminars will be held in which high-level figures will participate.
Thuraya explained that the program of activities that will be held within the Kingdom of Morocco’s pavilion will include side events centered around three central themes, which are sustainable and comprehensive urban development, urban resilience, and field development and innovation.
The activities of the twelfth edition of the Higher Urban Forum “WUF12” were launched. Under the slogan “It all starts locally” Let us work together for sustainable cities and communities.” The forum will be held at the Egypt International Exhibition Center “Al-Manara” with the participation of more than 174 countries.
The forum, which is organized by the Egyptian government, discusses In cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, Habitat, the critical role that local action can play in accelerating progress towards urban sustainability, and topics related to urbanization and smart and sustainable cities, especially with regard to promoting inclusive and sustainable urban expansion, and the ability to plan and manage Human settlements in all countries in a participatory, integrated and sustainable manner, by 2030; This is stipulated in the eleventh goal of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
