The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat, confirmed that Egypt is always among the top 3 countries in the region in entrepreneurship and technological innovation, explaining that there are about 1,000 startup companies that have benefited from the innovation centers since their establishment, in addition to more than 100,000 skills trainees. technology and self-employment through Egypt’s Digital Creativity Centers since its establishment; He added that there are about 20,000 beneficiaries of freelance work spaces in creativity centers in the governorates during the year 2024.
This came during the presentation made by the Minister of Communications on the vision of Egypt’s digital strategy, within the framework of the inspection tour carried out today by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly. Prime Minister, Egypt Digital Innovation Center “Cretiva” Giza.
During his presentation, Dr. Amr Talaat explained that this strategy is based on three citizen-centered pillars, namely enabling citizens to gain job opportunities in the digital economy, encouraging entrepreneurship and supporting citizens’ digital creativity, and simplifying citizens’ access procedures. The Minister pointed to the main enablers of the strategy, which include an efficient digital infrastructure with a spread that guarantees citizens’ access to the Internet, and regulatory frameworks that attract local and foreign investments, And partnership with the private sector and civil society.
He referred to the plan of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to establish Digital Egypt Innovation Centers in all governorates. Explaining the importance of the centers as a major player in Egypt’s digital strategy through the programs they provide in partnership with the private sector to provide training in digital skills, and provide trainees with self-employment skills, in addition to nurturing technological innovation. He explained that the innovation centers were increased from 3 centers in 2016 to 11 centers in 2022, 20 centers in 2023, then 23 centers in 2024, and the goal is to reach 27 centers in 2025. He explained the determinants of choosing Egypt Digital Creativity Centers, which are the availability of a suitable space for the center’s activities that accommodates the number of beneficiaries, the geographical location being in the center of the governorate, and being close to the main university in the governorate.
The Minister reviewed the efforts made to develop a heritage building and transform it. To the Digital Egypt Innovation Center in Giza while preserving its architectural style; Pointing out that the Digital Egypt Creativity Centers include centers with a distinct architectural character, including the Digital Egypt Creativity Center, Sultan Hussein Kamel Palace in Cairo, and the Digital Egypt Creativity Center in Giza.
He stressed the Ministry’s keenness to attract prestigious international entities and companies to support emerging companies in All stages of its growth; Pointing to the program that was implemented to provide consulting services to companies in the pre-establishment stage in cooperation with the American Babson College, he explained that consulting services are provided in the establishment stage in cooperation with 500 Global, explaining that in the product development stage, consulting services and financing are provided at about 100 thousand. Dollar in cooperation with “Plug and Play” company. During the stage of launching the product and gaining a small market share, financing ranging between 300-600 thousand dollars is provided in cooperation with 500 Global, and in the stage of growth and developing the market share, networking forums are held in cooperation with the “Plug and Play” company. Adding that there is cooperation with international companies to support emerging companies to expand outside the local market.
The minister pointed out the efforts made to foster technological innovation within the center through the government innovation laboratory in cooperation with the German Development Agency, and cooperation with South Korea to prepare spaces to incubate Start-up companies and electronics design laboratories, and contracting with 500 Global to manage the start-up incubator.
He pointed out that the Digital Egypt Creativity Center “Cretiva” It offers a variety of training programs, including specialized programs in modern technologies, training for employment in cooperation with the private sector, and a specialized diploma in electronics design and prototype manufacturing. He added that the center provides spaces to incubate 60 independent professionals daily, and spaces to incubate 40 startup companies annually, in addition to providing 9 specialized laboratories for training, two electronics laboratories, and two specialized incubators, as well as a theater with a capacity of 200 people to host events, a garden, and spaces for student activities.
