Launching a feminist textile conference in the presence of 12 feminist initiatives from the governorates of the Republic

Under the title “Feminist Weaving… A Success Story” The Tadween Center for Gender Studies launched its conference on Wednesday morning, and Dr. Amal Fahmy, Executive Director of the Tadween Center for Gender Studies, said that the feminist community becomes stronger when there is collective action, which is the real path to change to support abused women psychologically and legally, which in turn is linked to gender justice, and not just existing violence. On gender, and the basis of all of this is in forming a strong feminist community.

 

She indicated that groups of 16 initiatives were selected, and a change occurred in these initiatives that generated continuity and support for these initiatives according to the nature of each initiative. She pointed to the axis of building trust between existing women’s groups and organizations, and the groups were encouraged to work together.

Helen Forsberg, Executive Director of the Women’s Council in Denmark, said that the Council is an organization that has been working for women’s rights for more than 100 years and works to support gender equality in countries that need support and assistance, and not all regions face the same challenges, which is what she sensed through her work, and she spoke About her experience working in the feminist community, which is surrounded by a lot of pressure because it faces society’s ideas that have been entrenched for many years. Therefore, there must be unity among the different organizations, regardless of their orientations and individual differences, which makes work in the feminist community capable of providing support to different groups.

Sarah Mustafa Haridi spoke about the goal of “feminist fabric.” To support the skills of initiative members because every initiative has a founder and partners. The second goal is that after there were 7 initiatives in 7 governorates, they became 14 initiatives in 8 governorates. The campaign was able to reach more than a million people through social media, and one of the most difficult difficulties they faced was the difference in initiatives, which is what It was exploited positively because each initiative complemented the other. Naila Ahmed Refaat said that, through her experience, she visited many governorates of Egypt and worked in all fields and with several initiatives. She said that efforts have been woven so that it does not become just a routine procedure, but rather creates a space for learning, momentum, and passion through a group of young feminist initiatives, in order to create A space of joint work, through a community of practice, with the aim of developing on the personal and professional levels and accessing different experiences and in a job that has a meaning and a professional identity and not just projects, and at the same time these initiatives are a reference. Naila pointed out the most important initiatives  in "feminist fabric" Including the "female" initiative.
