Launching a discussion session on the benefits of green transformation in industry

 

 

Showing examples of success stories of projects implemented by the program that achieved environmental and economic returns in various industrial sectors and paved the way for green transformation.

The second session of the closing celebration of the third phase of the industrial pollution control program discussed, " “The benefits of green transformation in industry,” from discussion dialogues between a number of representatives of industrial facilities and experts, namely Dr. Shadia Al-Shishini, consultant for the industrial pollution control program, Mr. Mohamed Abed, factory manager at Hotomaki Company, and Mr. Essam Bahr, head of the quality sector at Al-Nasr Fertilizers and Industries Company. “Smadco” Chemical Company, Mr. Walid Ramadan, Financial Director of Misr Chemical Company, and Mr. Maged Mostafa, Head of Operations Sector, Arabian Cement Company, and Ms. Rabab Manea, Director of Sustainability and Climate Change, Oriental Weavers Group,  The session was moderated by Dr. Hanaa Jumaa, Director of the Industrial Pollution Control Program.

 

The discussion panel reviewed a number of examples of success stories for projects supported by the Industrial Pollution Control Program in a number of industrial facilities in sectors Different, and their environmental and economic returns, reflect the program’s keenness to reach various sectors to meet environmental challenges. Mr. Walid Ramadan, Financial Director of Misr Chemical Company, confirmed that the company is one of the oldest companies working in the field of chemicals, as the chemical industry requires continuously advanced technology, which prompted… The company seeks to cooperate with the industrial pollution control project in its various stages to keep pace with the great technological development, so that we achieve the required economic goals and preserve the environment at the same time, pointing to the great cooperation between The company and the program are implementing many projects, such as a boiler unit, establishing an industrial sewage station, and implementing an evaporator unit, all of which are projects that have contributed to reducing pollution and preserving the environment. Looking forward to cooperation  Fruitful with the program in the new project related to the sustainable green industry.

For her part, Ms. Rabab Manie, Director of Sustainability and Climate Change at the Oriental Weavers Group, confirmed that the company is the largest carpet manufacturing company in the Middle East and exports to about 130 countries around the world, Nearly 60% of production is exported, so we always have great requirements towards sustainability and mitigating the negative effects of climate change, pointing out that we have been moving towards sustainability since &nbsp In its various stages.

Mr. Majed Mustafa, Head of Operations Sector at the Arab Cement Company, explained that the Arab Cement Company has been working using alternative fuels for more than 30./. of using alternative fuels instead of fossil fuels, and that the company, in cooperation with the Industrial Pollution Control Project EPAP, supports approximately 35 million dollars for the production of alternative fuels, and that since 2015 the line has been operating successfully, and that there are about more than one million tons of waste, whether agricultural or industrial. Or others that are benefited by reducing carbon dioxide by more than 80 thousand tons per year, as the company exports 40./. Produced for the European Union, he also pointed out that the filter purification project inside industrial facilities has been implemented by the company and works successfully to purify the air from pollution resulting from factory smoke.

Mr. Muhammad Abed, Factory Manager at Hotomake Packaging Company, appreciated, The success achieved by the company from implementing the solvent recovery project in cooperation with the Industrial Pollution Control Programme, as a repetition of a successful experience that the program applied with another company that achieved a significant economic and environmental return, as the project is being implemented over 3 years. It is currently in the second year, during which it has achieved the recovery of 2,000 tons of solvents per year and reduced emissions by about 7,000 tons per year. 

For his part, Essam Bahr, Head of the Quality Sector at Al-Nasr Fertilizers and Chemical Industries Company “Simadco”, directed Thanks to the Industrial Pollution Control Program for implementing a project that is the first in the industry’s adaptation to climate change with the aim of treating sewage and industrial waste and recovering raw materials, noting that the project is divided into 3 parts that included a sewage station with a production capacity of 8,400 thousand cubic meters per day to absorb treated wastewater from Suez Governorate and use it in the company’s production units, cooling towers and boilers, and the second unit with a capacity of 400 cubic meters per hour / 9000 cubic meters per day, to take all industrial wastewater from the production units to treat it and reuse it in Cooling towers to preserve the aquatic environment of the Gulf of Suez, in addition to an ammonium nitrate coverage unit with a capacity of 45 cubic meters per hour to recover all the ammonium nitrate salts dissolved in the unit’s industrial wastewater and reuse them again in manufacturing, as it affects production costs and raw materials involved in the manufacturing process. And preserving the water environment and the environment surrounding the company.

Issam Bahr pointed out that cooperation with the Green Sustainable Industries Program (GSI) in an upcoming project to reuse the CO2 coming from An ammonia production unit to reuse it again, as this project will soon come into effect.

Dr. indicated. Shadia  Al-Shishini, a consultant for the Industrial Pollution Control Project, called for the inclusion of new projects and types in the Green Sustainable Industry Program (GSI) based on the new projects that the Egyptian market witnessed, noting the interest of the Egyptian state through the Council of Ministers and giving priority to water conservation by preventing industrial waste. On the Nile for sugar factories, where companies support those factories to agree and reuse that water in the manufacturing process, pointing to the implementation of a new project in Qus, Edfu and Naga Hammadi factories to provide 48 million cubic meters of water per year, at a financial cost. It is estimated at 2 million euros. During her interventions, she also reviewed a number of new projects scheduled to be implemented within the sustainable green industry program to help them comply with European laws.
