Kamel Al-Wazir and the Italian Minister of Transport witness the line operation ceremony "RORO" The first flight arrives in Italy
Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Matteo Salvini, Deputy Prime Minister and Italian Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, and the leaders of maritime transport in Italy, participated in a major celebration held by the Italian side in the port of “Trieste”; On the occasion of the operation of the “RORO” line Egyptian Italian, and the arrival of the first flight of the line.
This came during the minister’s visit to the port of “Trieste”. The Italian, accompanied by Ambassador Bassam Rady, Egyptian Ambassador to Italy, where they were received by the president and leaders of the port.
During the visit, the minister and his accompanying delegation inspected the port, and learned about all the activities that are being offered, and the future plan for expansion of the port. It is considered one of the most important ports in Italy, the European region and the Adriatic Sea, and is mainly used as a sea port for goods.
During the celebration activities, the Minister congratulated the political leadership and the government. And the peoples of the two friendly countries to operate the Egyptian-Italian RoRo line, stressing that the sustainable operation of this line between Egypt and Italy is the result of great efforts by both sides to create a green corridor between them to transport goods using refrigerated and dry trucks, which embodies the distinguished relations between the political leadership and the two peoples in the two friendly countries. Pointing out that this sea line is considered a sustainable and stable bridge of friendship between the two countries and not just a commercial line for transporting goods.
He said that operating the line will contribute to opening export markets. For Egyptian exports of agricultural goods to the Italian and European markets, and that this operation comes within the framework of the directives of His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to transform Egypt into a regional center for transport, logistics and trade, adding that the project will contribute to strengthening Egypt’s ability to make it a central logistics region between Europe and Africa, Benefiting from European expertise in the field of land transport, as well as increasing and enhancing commercial opportunities and supporting Egyptian exports of industrial products and agricultural crops by facilitating the access of Egyptian products to European markets. He added that the line will also contribute to reducing shipping costs and the arrival time of goods. The new line will allow rapid access for products to all European cities, and it will take only two and a half days for the shipment to arrive between the ports of Damietta and Trieste, compared to about 6 days using traditional methods, which will enhance the competitiveness of the Egyptian product in those markets, in addition to contributing to saving… Direct and indirect job opportunities for administrative staff of transport companies, shipping companies and shipping agents, in addition to providing more than 2,000 job opportunities for Egyptian drivers.
On the sidelines of the ceremony celebrating the operation of the Ruhr line, a meeting was held Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, held an expanded meeting with Matteo Salvini, to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two sides in various fields of transport.
The Minister praised the existing cooperation between the two sides in implementing a number of projects in the fields of (smart transport). on roads, metro, railways, and maritime transport), stressing the aspiration to increase the volume of cooperation between the two sides in the fields of transport and industry.
The two sides also discussed the discussions currently taking place between the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and the Italian Railway Company, regarding The company submits an offer to manage and operate the high-speed electric train network in Egypt, as well as discussions regarding the participation of Salchef Company with the Airtrack Company, affiliated with the Egyptian Railways Authority, to establish a company specializing in railway renovations, so that the new company will implement the renewal of the accumulated distances, which amount to about 2,000 kilometers, or Construction of new lines.
The two parties also discussed cooperation with the Italian company Mermec in various fields of railways; Such as supplying a track inspection machine and developing signaling systems on the Al-Fardan/Bir al-Abd line, and the company establishing a large factory for signaling systems in Egypt, with the aim of localizing such high-tech industries in Egypt, to reduce dependence on the foreign component, in addition to making Egypt a regional center for the company in such industries.
For his part, the Italian Minister of Transport and Infrastructure affirmed his happiness with the operation of the Egyptian-Italian RoRo line, which embodies the depth of relations between the two sides, stressing the interest in increasing the volume of cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Industry in Egypt, especially with the great development. Which Egypt is witnessing in various fields, noting that it is a plan for him to visit Egypt in the first quarter of 2025, to continue discussing common cooperation topics between the two sides.
