I’m a flight attendant, these are the biggest mistakes passengers make when packing their carry-on suitcases
A flight attendant has shared the biggest mistakes that passengers make when packing their carry-on suitcases.
After six years of working for a major US airline, CiCi, who kept her last name hidden for privacy reasons, has become a travel expert.
And over the course of her career, she has witnessed a lot of mishaps that travelers have faced due to problems with their carry-on bags.
Thankfully, she broke down all the ways they can be avoided to Business Insider.
She said the number one mistake that she sees people make is that they bring a carry-on that is so heavy they can’t lift it into the overhead bin.
She explained that helping passengers pick up their enormous suitcases is not part of the flight attendants’ jobs, and it puts them at risk.
She also pointed out that it can slow down the board process.
Instead of filling your bag up with bulky items like sweatshirts or boots, she recommended wearing the stuff that might take up the most room in your suitcase when you travel.

Another mishap that she sees a lot of passengers make is bringing too many carry-on bags with them to the airport.
CiCi explained out most airlines only allow you to bring on two bags on the flight – one roller suitcase and a smaller handbag – and if you have any more you may end up paying high fees to check them last minute.
Another common mistake that travelers make, according to the flight attendant, is not keeping their essential items in convenient places.
‘People put things that they need on the plane – like their book and their earbuds or whatever they’re going to need – inside their suitcase,’ she said. ‘[And then] it’s not easy to access.’`
Another mistake she said she often sees is people forgetting to bring vital items, like a reusable water bottle or snacks.
She suggested that travelers always bring food with them on long flights, as sometimes turbulence can disrupt the flight attendants’ service and prevent them from passing out meals.
Last but not least, CiCi said people tend to pack their liquids incorrectly, which can result in leaks in their carry-on bags.
She suggested squeezing all the extra air out of any bottles of liquid that you store in your bag as gases tend to expand when the air pressure changes.
