For his part, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the arrival of the drug shipment represents a decisive step in the treatment of cystic fibrosis in Egypt, as 2,800 packages of Trikafta, which is the newest treatment, were received. For this disease, which reflects Egypt’s commitment to providing the best means of health care to its citizens within the framework of a comprehensive national vision aimed at eliminating rare diseases.

Abdul Ghaffar pointed out: That cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that leads to severe damage to the lungs, digestive system, and other organs, and treatment reduces the symptoms of the disease, especially pulmonary disabilities, which provides a new horizon of hope for cystic fibrosis patients in Egypt, and provides effective treatment after the disease used to lead to It leads to a sharp deterioration in the respiratory and digestive systems and causes deaths among children and adolescents.

For his part, Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stressed the Ministry’s interest in developing university hospitals and improving the level of Services provided to citizens, within the framework of continuous support from the political leadership, noting the state’s focus on treating rare diseases by encouraging scientific research, raising the efficiency of medical personnel, and developing hospital infrastructure; Which strengthens Egypt’s position as a regional center for treating these diseases. He also praised the Ministry’s cooperation with the Ministry of Health to improve medical services and provide the best care for citizens and expatriate patients, looking forward to more fruitful cooperation.

Ashour added: The interest of the two ministries in the file of rare diseases stems from their belief in the importance of developing the health system in Egypt and their interest in the health of the citizen, explaining that this interest is in line with the strategy of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the state’s vision for achieving sustainable development 2030, stressing the role of universities and higher education institutions in effectively contributing to the development process.
