For the first time since 2018, the World Series returns to Dodger Stadium, as the 2024 edition features a historic Fall Classic rivalry between the Dodgers and the New York Yankees.
The Dodgers will start Jack Flaherty for Game 1, looking to find his form in Game 1 of the NLCS against the New York Mets after giving up eight runs in Game 5. Gerrit Cole, entering with a 3.31 ERA in 16 1⁄3 postseason innings this year, gets the nod for New York.
A couple of key pieces for the Dodgers will be making their returns to the playoff picture, with reliever Alex Vesia and shortstop Miguel Rojas being added to the World Series roster. Rojas left Game 3 of the NLDS against the San Diego Padres due to an aggravated torn adductor muscle, missing the remainder of the series and the entire NLCS. Vesia didn’t pitch at all in the NLCS due to suffering an intercostal strain while warming up in the eighth inning of Game 5 of the NLDS.
Freddie Freeman is back in the lineup for Game 1 after missing Game 6 of the NLCS against the Mets.
