Consumer Protection warns against fake advertisements with the launch of Black Friday sales

The Consumer Protection Agency warned consumers not to be led by misleading, misleading advertisements and not to deal with unapproved electronic commercial platforms from pages spread on all social media outlets and websites across the Internet, calling on merchants and suppliers to adhere to the provisions of Consumer Protection Law No. 181 of the year 2018.

This comes within the framework of the agency’s keenness to regulate commercial transactions, especially with regard to electronic commercial transactions, and in conjunction with the start of the Black Friday sales season throughout the month of November, and within the framework of what is being monitored and followed up on all commercial activities and complaints received. From consumers in this regard.

 

The head of the Consumer Protection Agency, Ibrahim Al-Sajini, demanded that consumers deal with suppliers and commercial outlets committed to implementing the Consumer Protection Law and approved electronic platforms that have headquarters within The Arab Republic of Egypt, directing its advice to the masses of consumers when purchasing online, and the necessity of reviewing the following conditions to avoid fraudulent operations, which is not to participate in competitions except after verifying the notification number of the Consumer Protection Agency in accordance with Law 181 of 2018, and the availability of merchant data, including name and address. The phone number and e-mail, and the information about the product being offered, including its source, characteristics, characteristics, how to use it, the risks that may result from this use, the price of the product and all amounts that may be added to the price (duties/taxes, shipping costs), and the date and place of delivery. And the provisions for revocation in the contract, especially the period during which the consumer may retract it. Shopping through a secure site preserves the data and credit card numbers that you use for purchases, and it is necessary to keep a copy of the purchase order every time you buy through electronic platforms, and print it and keep a copy of it.

 

He added: “We have a Department of Misleading Ads and the Media Observatory,” which periodically follows up and monitors all advertisements across the visual, print and audio media, as well as social media, and receives complaints from citizens in this regard and begins investigating complaints related to purchasing After.

 

In the same context, the head of the agency calls on merchants and suppliers to adhere to the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law, by giving the consumer a tax invoice showing all the information and characteristics of the product, and to commit to announcing discounts. Real, and adhere to the exchange and return policy stated in the law, and not announce competitions by any means except after notifying the agency with the data specified by the executive regulations of this law at least three days before the announcement date, pointing out that in the event of violations related to misleading advertisements or deceptive consumer behavior, The provisions of the law will be implemented, violators will be referred to the Public Prosecution, and fines will be imposed, the penalty amounting to two million pounds.

 

He indicated that during the month of November, in conjunction with the Black Friday sales season, the agency will launch awareness campaigns. To educate consumers about their rights and the mechanisms for communicating with the agency in the event of a complaint or report in this regard.
