Brighton 1-1 Arsenal: Gunners miss chance to go within three points of Liverpool in title race as Joao Pedro’s penalty cancels out Ethan Nwaneri’s opener

Arsenal fell further behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race as they were forced to settle for a point against Brighton.

With new England boss Thomas Tuchel watching on, Ethan Nwaneri lit up the Amex as he netted the opener, though Bart Verbruggen should have done better.

With Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz still out, Martin Odegaard had to settle for a spot on the bench and his second half introduction was too late for him to have too much of an impact.

That was at 1-1, after Joao Pedro had brought the scores level from the penalty spot. He went down under a challenge from William Saliba – a bizarre one, with the duo clashing heads.

The Brazillian sent David Raya the wrong way from the spot. Another game without a win for Brighton, but a point – Arsenal trail Liverpool – who have two games in hand – by five points.
