Alexandria Governor: The political leadership is interested in the archaeological areas to put the city on the list of international tourist attractions

The Governor of Alexandria, Ahmed Khaled Hassan Saeed, stressed the interest of the political leadership in the city of Alexandria at all levels, especially the interest in the archaeological areas that contribute greatly to making Alexandria on the list of international tourist attractions.

 

The Alexandria Governorate stated – in a statement today, Friday – that the Governor of Alexandria visited the Agaibi Monastery of Marmina and was received by Bishop Cyril of Ava Mina, Bishop and President of the Monastery of Marmina.

 

The Governor inspected the area Abu Mina Archaeological Site to identify the most important problems and obstacles it faces and work to solve them, as this area is considered one of the most important religious archaeological areas in Alexandria Governorate due to its great historical and archaeological status dating back to the late fourth century AD, and it is considered one of the most important Christian pilgrimage centers in Egypt.< /p>

 

The governor listened to a detailed explanation about the archaeological area of ​​Abu Mina, which was discovered in 1905 AD by the German archaeologist Kaufmann. Attempts were also made to excavate the area at various intervals, which resulted in the discovery of a city. The entire city is called the Marble City due to the large amount of marble it contains, in addition to a group of churches, houses, and baths. In 1979 AD, the UNESCO Heritage Committee decided to include the Abu Mina Antiquities site on the World Heritage List, making it one of the most important historical and archaeological places in the world.

 

The governor of Alexandria’s inspection tour came in the presence of Dr. Father Sadaws Ava Mina, head of antiquities and public relations at the monastery, Mohamed Metwally, director general of Alexandria Antiquities, members of the Senate, and the competent authorities in Alexandria Governorate.
