Katy Perry got more than she bargained for when she shared her pick for the year’s best film this week.
On Monday, the Roar hitmaker, 40, took to X (formerly Twitter) to call Demi Moore’s The Substance ‘the best film of the year.’
While many of Katy’s fans agreed with her on the merits of the movie, the pop star also became a target of trolling over her endorsement of failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
‘You also said Kamala was the best candidate. Can’t trust you on anything these days,’ one commented.
‘Not really taking your recommendations after the whole Kamala thing,’ another wrote.

Katy publicly endorsed Kamala for president over Donald Trump, and even performed at a campaign rally for her.
Over the weekend, comedian John Oliver jokingly blamed Katy’s performance of a Whitney Houston song for losing Kamala the election.
‘Personally, I kind of would like to imagine that everything that happened on Tuesday is Katy Perry’s fault because at Kamala’s Election Eve rally, she did this ill-advised cover,’ he said on Last Week Tonight.
‘I mean, you are right, they can’t take away your dignity because you just surrendered it willingly,’ he continued, referencing the lyrics to Whitney’s The Greatest Love Of All.
‘Now, did that drunk bachelorette karaoke night performance doom the whole Harris campaign? Probably not. But it feels good to think so because it’s an easy answer to a difficult question.’
Meanwhile, some trolls online snidely commented that Katy was a fan of The Substance because she saw herself in Demi’s character.
‘I know she felt every second of it,’ one posted, while another wrote, ‘She was relating to Elisabeth Sparkle too much.’

The Substance tells the story of Elisabeth Sparkle, a famed aerobics instructor with a televised show.
Unceremoniously sacked as she hits her 50th birthday, Elisabeth discovers a black-market drug which can create a ‘younger, more beautiful, more perfect’ version of its user.
The drug’s strict conditions are gruesome however, and Elisabeth’s need for youth to sustain her career talks directly to Hollywood’s abandoning of actresses as they age.
