Sir Chris Hoy has said he is “utterly blown away” by the “love and support” he has received since revealing he has terminal cancer.
In his first public message since telling The Sunday Times that he has two to four years to live, the six-time Olympic gold medallist said he was “so grateful to everyone for their incredible kindness and support”.
The former cyclist was diagnosed this year after he visited a doctor in late 2023 with shoulder pain. A scan found that prostate cancer had spread to his bones and was past treatment, but its progression could be slowed.
“It is not the news anyone imagines hearing, and it obviously came as a huge shock,” Hoy said in the video posted to Instagram.
