Within the activities of the second edition of the World Conference on Health, Population and Development 2024, the Ministry of Health and Population held a dialogue session entitled “Monitoring key health indicators in primary health care and promoting women’s health: the current situation and action plan,” within the conference held under the slogan “ “Human development for a sustainable future” During the period from 21 to 25 October, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in the New Administrative Capital.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that this session represents part of the ongoing efforts to enhance public health and improve The quality of health care for women, in light of the increasing challenges facing society, noting that the session addressed the importance of monitoring the main health indicators in primary health care and promoting women’s health, as they are essential factors for improving the quality of health care and ensuring the health of society, stressing the importance of activating the mechanization system in all governorates, In addition to discussing ways to pay attention to women’s health and how to reduce maternal and child mortality rates.
In this context, Dr. Abla Al-Alfi, Deputy Minister of Health and Population, stressed the improvement in overall performance in reducing maternal and child mortality thanks to the presence of a good governance system in Egypt. It is activated in all governorates, and there is a need for continuous follow-up by specialists to eliminate issues such as early marriage and female genital mutilation, noting that the medical liability law is about to come to light, which will help support facts, good analysis, and protect both the doctor and the patient.
Alfi added that the “1000 Golden Days” initiative It mainly aims to reduce maternal mortality by improving access to health care and nutrition, which can reduce the risk of maternal deaths during pregnancy and childbirth, and enhance children’s health by improving nutrition and health care, which contributes to reducing death and injury rates among children under the age of two. She stressed that investing in the health of mothers and children enhances the health of society in general and contributes to sustainable development.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Hassan, Director of the General Department of Non-Communicable Diseases in the Primary Health Care Sector, said that the maternal mortality rate is a basic indicator. For the performance of the health care system and the quality of services, stressing the need to look beyond that, as maternal mortality is the result of a series of deficiencies and lack of resources that depend on factors outside the health care system.
Hassan pointed out that reducing the rate Maternal mortality requires a complex response to organize health services, and change the behaviors of a large number of stakeholders inside and outside the health system. He stressed the importance of health indicators in identifying health needs, monitoring progress, and evaluating health care systems.

Obstetrics and Gynecology in Benha, pointed out that universities and research centers play an important role in supporting efforts to reduce maternal deaths through medical education for the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and training doctors through workshops to manage the main causes of maternal deaths, stressing that university hospitals are considered specialized hospitals that treat high-level causes.
