President of Airports Holding: Burj Al Arab Airport will be the first environmentally friendly Egyptian airport
The Chairman of the Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation, Engineer Ayman Arab, confirmed that the expansions and development projects at Burj Al Arab International Airport; It keeps pace with global trends in terms of taking into account the environmental dimensions of air traffic, as the airport will be the first environmentally friendly Egyptian airport following the renovations and opening of the new passenger terminal, as the project depends on reducing carbon emissions, generating electricity through solar energy, and using the VRV air conditioning system to save energy.
This came during an inspection tour by the President of the Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation at Burj Al Arab International Airport. To follow up on the ongoing development work and ensure regular operation rates and the quality of services provided to passengers. He was accompanied by pilot Ahmed Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Airports Company.
The tour comes within the framework of the directives of the Minister of Civil Aviation, Dr. Sameh El-Hafny, to work to implement the state’s vision to improve the Egyptian airport system. And increasing its capacity, in line with development plans and aiming to double the number of tourists.
At the beginning of the tour of Passenger Terminal No. (1), engineer Ayman Arab listened to a presentation about the development projects in the building, and he Engineer Ahmed Al-Sayed, Head of the Civil and Architectural Engineering Sector at the Egyptian Airports Company, presented the development work that Borg El Arab Airport is undergoing, explaining that the airport includes the “No. 1” passenger terminal. And "No. 2" (New).
Engineer Ahmed explained that the “No. 1” passenger terminal was opened in 2010, on an area of 24,000 square meters, and its capacity reaches 1,200,000. passengers annually. The building includes the international travel hall, the transit corridor, the arrivals hall, and the baggage belt area, in addition to temporary places designated to receive and bid farewell to travelers, until the completion of the development work at the airport and the development projects in Terminal 1, which will begin after the operation of the new Terminal 2.< /p>
During the tour of the new Terminal 2 – Navigator Ahmed Sharaf, Airport Director, presented the capabilities, capacity and expected operating activity of the airport during the coming period after the operation of the new passenger terminal, which is scheduled to Its capacity reaches 4 million and 800 thousand passengers annually, explaining that thus the total capacity of Burj Al Arab International Airport will reach 6 million passengers annually.
