The National Council for Childhood announced that a video had been monitored on the social networking site Facebook, in which a 12-year-old girl from one of the villages of Ashmoun Center in Menoufia Governorate appeared, bearing traces of beating and torture. The child reported that her father’s wife was the one who stripped her. of her clothes, and assaulted her using a gas hose, causing her multiple hand injuries, eye bruises and various parts of the body, and that her father did not respond to the assault inflicted on her by his wife, but rather did He insulted her with obscene language.
Dr. Sahar Al-Sunbati, President of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, explained that as soon as the incident was monitored, an urgent complaint was filed on the child helpline, noting that the necessary measures were taken regarding the incident and the competent authorities were informed, as they were The Child Protection Office in the Attorney General’s Counsel Office was informed, and the Ashmoun District District Prosecution Office began its investigations into the incident. Ashmoun was charged with misdemeanors, and the Public Prosecution decided to detain the accused, the father of the child, with a request for an investigation unit. Investigations into the incident brought the accused to the Shebin El-Kom University Hospital, Department of Clinical Toxicology and Analysis, in order to take the necessary samples to determine whether or not he was using narcotic substances. The accused, the stepmother, was arrested and presented to the Public Prosecution as soon as she was caught.
Dr. Sahar Al-Sunbati thanked the Public Prosecution and the Child Protection Office in the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the efforts made and the rapid response to address incidents of violence against children and the violations they are exposed to. She also thanked the members of the unit. The General Directorate of Child Protection in Menoufia Governorate and the sub-unit of the Ashmoun Center for their efforts to protect children at risk and for the assistance and support they provided to the girl child and taking into account her best interests.
For his part, Sabri Othman, Director General of the General Administration for Child Relief, indicated that based on the report of the Sub-Protection Unit in the Center and City of Ashmoun, the child was handed over to a trustworthy family member (the aunt). After taking the necessary pledges on her to take good care of her, preserve her and not expose her to danger, and taking into account her best interests, stressing that this incident constitutes a crime of exposing a child to danger in accordance with the provisions of the Children’s Law, and a crime of assault in accordance with the provisions of the Penal Code.
He stressed that the Council addresses all violations and incidents that pose a danger to children, pointing out that the Monitoring and Social Communication Department of the General Administration for Child Help monitors complaints.
