The contract was signed by Major General Yasser Abdel Aziz, Secretary-General of Minya Governorate, and Iago Castro Aza Jerry, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Managing Director of Assiut Cement Company “CEMEX”. Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, confirmed that Minya Governorate is witnessing the implementation of a number of municipal solid waste system projects, as 3 safe sanitary landfills are being constructed in each of the centers of West Minya – Tuna Al-Jabal – Al-Adwa, with a total cost of 188 million pounds, thus reaching the volume of investments provided to develop the system. Dr. Manal Awad referred to the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the government to preserve the environment and safely dispose of waste accumulations in the governorates in a way that does not affect the public health of citizens, pointing out that the ministry is cooperating with the relevant ministries, led by the Ministry of Environment, to activate the integrated solid waste management system in the governorates. Dr. Manal Awad explained that the recent period witnessed the introduction of the management and operation of municipal solid waste recycling plants, providing the opportunity for national private sector companies and using the latest technology in this field and the administrative and technical expertise of the private sector to maintain the equipment present in waste factories in the governorates, in a way that contributes to preserving the investments made The state pumped it over the past years and ensured the optimal use of equipment, recycling lines, and the necessary maintenance procedures for them.
For her part, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, confirmed that signing contracts to establish a waste recycling plant in Minya Governorate comes within the framework of the planning, organizational and supervisory role of the Ministry of Environment in the new waste management system, and its contribution to implementing the system’s infrastructure as one of the mechanisms for creating a supportive climate to meet the challenge of waste management. waste in a way that achieves environmental, social and economic returns and achieves the desired sustainable development, and contributes to reducing emissions resulting from waste, which is one of the causes of the phenomenon Global warming and climate change.
Dr. Yasmine Fouad explained that the establishment of a non-hazardous waste treatment facility in Tuna al-Jabal in the Mallawi Center in Minya Governorate operates with a design capacity of 20 tons per hour with a total of 320 tons/day, through which the waste generated by the center and city of Mallawi and Deir Mawas will be received, where the waste will be treated. To produce alternative fuel and organic fertilizer and dispose of rejected waste in the sanitary landfill that is currently being constructed, stressing that this comes in implementation of the directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic. By accelerating the implementation of the system, and starting in the most densely populated places so that the citizen feels a tangible improvement as quickly as possible, noting that these projects help raise the efficiency of transporting and safe disposal of waste in the governorates and eliminate random practices, environmental pollution, and health risks resulting from improper handling of the waste system. .
This includes operating the treatment system and offering it to the private sector in order to absorb all the waste to obtain economic value from it, whether producing alternative fuel and providing it to cement factories or as organic fertilizer for land reclamation in addition to the excrements that are recycled in recycling factories.

The Governor of Minya indicated He pointed out that the factory, which was built on an area of 10 acres at a total cost of 90 million pounds from the budget of the Ministry of Local Development, is equipped with the latest equipment and supplies necessary for the waste recycling process, in addition to integrated administrative and service facilities, adding that this project is part of an integrated plan to develop the waste system. In the governorate, it also includes the establishment of safe sanitary landfills in the centers of West Minya, Tuna El-Gabal and Adwa, with a total cost of 188 million pounds, bringing the total investments in this sector to 278 million pounds, which contributes to improving the quality of life and providing a healthy and safe environment for citizens.
